The government of Missouri runs the Missouri Lottery. It is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which conducted its first drawing in 1988. The headquarters of the Missouri Lottery are based in Jefferson City, but there are other regional offices in Springfield, Kansas City and St. Louis amongst others. When the lottery was first established, the proceeds received through the ticket sales were sent to the Missouri State General Revenue Fund. Later on, an amendment was passed by the voters in 1992 after which the proceeds from the lottery sales were earmarked solely for the benefit of public education.
Since then, more than $5.8 billion has been contributed by the Missouri Lottery for public education and the state of Missouri. 4% of the state’s funding for public education are made through annual lottery contributions. In 2017, the Missouri Lottery contributed a sum of $297.8 million for public education, which is definitely a huge benefit.
There are some official rules that you need to follow if you wish to participate in the Missouri Lottery. You need to be 18 in order to purchase a ticket and it is your responsibility to check the ticket for ensuring it represents the right game, draw date, the chosen numbers and a serial number or a visual bar code. These tickets are only valid for the dates mentioned on the tickets and you can claim prizes within 180 days of the draw or else they will be forfeit. Your ticket is the valid proof you need to have for claiming the prize and the payslip is of no use. It is recommended that you sign the ticket at the time of purchase as it is considered a bearer instrument and the Missouri Lottery will not be responsible for stolen or lost tickets.
With Missouri Lottery, you have access to a variety of games and can participate by opting for any of these:
Like other states, Missouri Lottery also offers you the option of playing Powerball and Mega Millions if you wish.
Every time you purchase a ticket, you want to win the lottery, but it is easier said than done. Nonetheless, you can improve your chances of winning by playing the more unpopular games and playing at unpopular times. If the jackpot gets too high, there will be tough competition and this can make it difficult to win. Therefore, play when the jackpots are not too high and not too little. Lots of people choose numbers according to birthdays, which means numbers between 1 and 31 are frequently selected. Opt for numbers after 31 to boost your chances of winning.
The payouts you can get from participating in the Missouri Lottery depend on the game you are playing. The jackpots for Show Me Cash start at 50,000 and they continue to increase by $5,000 until someone is able to match all five numbers. As far as the Missouri Lotto is concerned, the jackpots are progressive and start at $1,000,000. Lucky for Life offers ‘lifetime’ payouts with the top tier offering $1,000 per day for your whole life. Powerball payouts begin at $40 million whereas Mega Millions start at $15 million and can quadruple with the multiplier option.
Even if you are unable to match all the numbers drawn in any of the games of the Missouri Lottery, you are still eligible for second-tier prizes if you match only few numbers. When playing Lucky for Life, you can win annual payments of $25,000 for every year of your life as a second tier prize. Likewise, if your Missouri Lotto ticket has the word ‘Doubler’ printed on it, you can win twice the normal amount, but this doesn’t apply to the jackpot amount.
Tickets for the Missouri Lotto went on sale on January 20th, 1986. An executive director is responsible for overseeing the organization and reporting to a five-member commission. In December 2009, the position of executive governor was taken by May Scheve Reardon. All monies that were earned through the sale of lottery tickets since 1993 have been dedicated to a variety of education programs in Missouri. The Legislature is responsible for appropriating these proceeds. Mega Millions and Powerball were added to the Missouri Lotto in January, 2010.
You can play a variety of Missouri Lottery games online including the Missouri Lotto, Pick 3 and Pick 4, Club Keno, Powerball and Show Me Cash. The process of buying tickets is very straightforward. All you have to do is open the official site and make an account. Select the games you want to play and buy the tickets.
